The awards recognise significant developments in public sector online services.
The awards, which are organised by Government Computing magazine, are the main accolades for those working on the electronic delivery of public services. It often seems the media are quick to report stories of Government ICT projects that over-run and over-spend (and sometimes just don't work), so it is refreshing to hear of success stories. These awards aim to recognise projects that show the imagination, focus and commitment to bring clear benefits to the public through the application of ICT (Information Communication Technology).
The awards panel received 150 entries from 98 different organisations, which is a record number of responses. The community website was included in the `Best Project - Government to Citizen' category, and beat off competition from some major projects to be one of five short-listed finalists. Entries came from all parts of the public sector including central and local government, health care, education, criminal justice and the military.
