The aim of the group is to encourage and support local people who write. We meet in the comfortable surroundings of Strollers Cafe, Goldsworth Park (near to Waitrose and with good parking) on the third Thursday of each month from 7.30 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. (sharp) excluding August and December.
The group comprises a great mixture of young and old, male and female, modern and traditional. We feel this gives us an eclectic approach. Some of our members write fantasy fiction; others write poetry. Some of us take the opportunity to try something other than our usual output every now and again.
At the monthly meetings we each try to read some of our work and sit back to hear informal constructive feedback. (This is sometimes difficult!) Each month we set "homework", a theme or idea for the following month. We can use this as inspiration for our writing, or ignore it entirely and bring something completely our own.
We also have a social and business cafe breakfast on the first Sunday of the month and hold a regular prose group, a whole day workshop to give greater attention to longer pieces of writing.
New members can visit for two months free before deciding whether to join or not. The subscription is £24 annually to cover the meeting room costs.
