Programme 2008

Our indoor meetings are held at Chobham Village Hall, Station Road, Chobham, GU24 8AQ beginning at 8.0 pm. There is an entrance charge of £2 except for November which is £4. Visitors are welcome at all our meetings.

  • Tuesday 12th February - Wildlife on the wing, illustrated talk by Ron Croucher.
  • Tuesday 11th March - Tracing frog origins by their accents, illustrated talk by Julia Wycherley. (Photo P. Precey)

  • Tuesday 8th April - Surrey Wildlife Trust grazing project, illustrated talk by Grazing Officer James Adler.
  • Sunday 14 September - Ecology of Surrey“s native ferns on Wisley Heath, guided walk by Ranger John Wilsher. Meet at 2 pm at Wren“s Nest  car park (Grid ref. TQ 065587) by Wisley Lane.

  • Tuesday 7 October - News from Surrey Wildlife Trust, illustrated talk by Chief Excecutive Nigel Davenport.

  • Thursday 20 November - Whales and Dolphins on our doorstep, illustrated talk by John Arnott of the Biscay Dolphin Research Programme. Joint meeting with the West Surrey Natural History Society.

  • Tuesday 13th February - A personal view of the habitats of Surrey, illustrated talk by John Edwards, Surrey County Council Ecologist.
  • Tuesday 13th March - Badgers and their ecology, illustrated talk by Dave Williams, SWT Mammal Project Officer. (Photo by Dave Williams). 

  • Tuesday 17th April - Living invertebrates under the video microscope, talk and demonstration by Julie Lang, SWT Education Officer. 
  • Tuesday 9 October - Surrey“s heathland wilderness, illustrated talk by Rob McGibbon, leader of the Surrey Heathland Project.

  • Thursday 15 November - Ancient trees - our living heritage, illustrated talk by Ted Green of the Windsor Crown Estate. Joint meeting with the West Surrey Natural History Society.

  • Tuesday 14 February - Managing Surrey Wildlife Trust's woodlands illustrated talk by Steve Livsey- Bennett, SWT Woodland Project Officer. (Photo by G. Sweetman).
  • Tuesday 14 March - Conservation of the great crested newt, illustrated talk by Rosalie Hughes. (Photo by Heather Angel).
  • Tuesday 11 April - An evening looking at pebbles with Dr. June Chatfield. Bring a manifying glass if possible and a sample pebble of your own.
  • Sunday 18 June - Bugs in the meadows north of Horsell Common, guided walk with Andrew Halstead. Meet at 2 pm at Sandy Track car park (Grid ref. TQ 003604), directed from Shores Road (A245) opposite Nuffield Hospital. Note the 3 mile walk includes a bridge with steps. 
  • Tuesday 10 October - Fungi - a look at the third kingdom, illiustrated talk by Ray Tantram and identification of specimens, bring one if you like.
  • Thursday 16 November - Wildlife of the Galapogos Islands, illustrated talk by Gerry Burman. This is a joint meeting with the West Surrey Natural History Society.
