SECAM Care currently consists of a small committee working towards launching a good neighbour or care scheme to cover a wide area in the South East of Woking (including the Town Centre and Maybury). It aims to provide a helping hand for residents, young or old, who find everyday tasks difficult. The aim is to fill the gaps in existing services, not replace them. Most of Woking is already covered by similar schemes like Horsell Care and Goldsworth Care.
The scheme would be open to all residents in the area who need help because of age, disability or temporary mobility problems due to illness.
We are looking for volunteers to be part of the Committee or anybody who would be willing to give as little as an hour a month. Care schemes are ideal for busy people who want to contribute to their community but can't commit in advance to a particular time. How you help is up to you. It could be picking up prescriptions or shopping, driving people to medical appointments or popping in for a friendly visit from time to time.
Please call or email us if you want to find out more about how you can make a real difference in your community.
This initiative has the support of Surrey Community Action, Woking Borough Council, local Anglican and Roman Catholic churches, the Shah Jahan Mosque and Horsell Care.
