SECAM Care is a Good Neighbour Scheme launched in November 2009. The name SECAM is derived from the areas within Woking that are served by the scheme, namely, South East, Central And Maybury.
SECAM Care aims to provide a helping hand for anyone who finds everyday tasks difficult. The aim is to fill the gaps in existing services, not replace them. Most of Woking is already covered by similar schemes; those we adjoin are Horsell Care, SWAN (South Woking Assisting Neighbours) and South Woking Help at Hand (for Old Woking).
The scheme is open to all residents in the area who need help because of age, disability or temporary mobility problems due to illness. We call them our clients. Within the limits of what our volunteers can take on, we try to meet all requests.
The service is provided by volunteers who take on jobs to meet the need of our clients. It could be picking up prescriptions or shopping, driving people to medical appointments or popping in for a friendly visit from time to time. We are now looking hard for new volunteers who would be willing to give as little as an hour a month. N.B. Volunteers need not reside within the SECAM area.
Care schemes are ideal for busy people who want to contribute to their community but can't commit in advance to a particular time. How you help is up to you, and whenever you are asked to do a job, you can always say `no, not this time´.
Please call, email or submit the form on this website if you want to find out more about how you can make a real difference in your community.
