Materials for public engagement

We are collecting materials which can be loaned out to local groups who wish to run awareness raising events to motivate communities to move towards low impact living.

We currently have these activities:

• Global steps

A game for exploring your personal environmental impacts. This uses a set of 10 cards with subject headings such as electricity and food. One side shows the impact of a high level of resource use and the other, a lower level. Points are accrued according to impact on the planet. A good tool for identifying what are the most important areas to address at a personal level, and also useful for triggering discussions. We have ten sets of cards, which should be adequate for a group of 30 people.

• Climatetalk

Climatetalk is a conversation game for groups of four to eight players. There are no winners or losers. It helps groups to share thoughts and feelings about climate change, and decide what to do about it. It has been used by walking groups, professionals and many other groups.

• Good or Bad for the Environment

You will find the cards for this here. Print pages 3,4and 5 on card or thick paper, cut up and give a selection out to each group of about 6 people. Ask them to put them into piles representing those actions which they think are good for the environment and those that they think are bad for the environment. This activity will stimulate discussion as not all cards are straightforward as one or the other! Again, we can loan out copies of cards if required. (Note that although this was originally designed for quite a different age group, it generates a remarkable amount of discussion amongst adults.) Have fun!
