Description

LA21 volunteers work on interesting and rewarding projects that support Woking residents in living lightly and moving towards one planet living. We promote sustainable living so our children and their children will continue to enjoy living.

This website gives a good overview of what we do, so please look around.

We'd be pleased to hear from you if you want to find out more, and delighted if you want to join us. We welcome ideas and energy to implement new projects for developing a vibrant, resilient and thriving low-impact community in Woking.

WATCH OUT for the Gardening for Life survey distributed in March with the Woking Magazine, or fill it in online or print it out from here. Take the Gardening for Life link on the right hand side and then the link to the survey.

Community Sustainable Energy Programme

There is now funding available from a new Community Sustainable Energy Programme to help schools, community groups etc with a) the costs of studying and planning for renewable energy installations, and b) with the costs of installing renewable energy systems.

Examples of such technologies are Solar Photovoltaics and Wind Turbines to produce electricity, Solar hot water systems, and Wood-fuelled boilers. Grants of 50% may be given for installing an energy system, and 75% for the cost of a study.

Further details of the Programme are available online at www.communitysustainable.org.uk , and applications are open from April 2008.

CARBON REDUCTION TIPS:

  1. Assess your eco-footprint with WWF's calculator For a more detailed measurement of your carbon footprint try The CarbonDiet or ActonCO2
  2. Drive economically (and save money as well): see Dept for Transport tips
  3. Walk rather than drive for short journeys. Try car-sharing for commuting if public transport doesn't work for you.
  4. Save energy in the home - at low cost: visit the Energy Saving Trust
  5. Make your home more energy efficient: see Woking's Greener Homes Guide and Green Pages, or visit the Energy Saving Trust

Community Sustainable Energy Programme.
