The Government 'recommended' merging South East police forces, but have given 5 options. They eventually decided in 2006 that Surrey and Sussex should merge.
Option 1 = 2 forces
(Surrey, Kent and Sussex) and (Hampshire and Thames Valley).
Option 2 = 3 forces
(Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire) and (Thames Valley) and (Kent)
Option 3 = 3 forces
(Surrey, Kent and Sussex) and (Hampshire) and (Thames Valley)
Option 4 = 3 forces
(Surrey and Hampshire) and (Thames Valley) and (Kent and Sussex)
Option 5 = 4 forces
(Surrey and Sussex) and (Hampshire) and (Thames Valley) and (Kent)
or if the Police Forces decide to ignore the Government's advice.
Option 6 =
Surrey stays Independent.

ALSO A PLAN IS IN CONSULTATION TO MERGE LOCAL AUTHORITIES INTO UNITARY AUTHORITIES WHICH MAY MEAN THE END OF COUNTY COUNCILS IN ENGLAND. HOWEVER THIS DOES NOT MEAN THE PLAN WILL GET APPROVED!
