House of Commons Report (July)

The House of Commons is dominated by the issue of when Tony Blair will go; his Government, especially the Home Office, has been rocked by scandal and glaring inefficiencies. Meanwhile there is a growing enthusiasm for David Cameronīs fresh approach to politics - long may that last.
One of the top Woking issues for me at the moment is the fight against the Governmentīs proposal to amalgamate Surrey and Sussex Police into one remote force, with its headquarters based somewhere in Sussex. I canīt find anybody who thinks policing will improve under this proposal and Surrey MPs are united in our opposition. It would make policing more remote and further severe the vital link between the police and the community they serve.
Recent rapes and knife incidents have certainly worried Goldsworth Park residents immensely. They and many people in Woking are urging increased police visibility in view of higher levels of anti-social behaviour and petty crime. This is an issue I am raising constantly with our local police.
Goldsworth Park is fortunate in having a well planned comprehensive development. Elsewhere in Woking there is growing concern about the volume of development in the area - when will the authorities realise that the infrastructure has to keep pace with the building. Far too little attention has been paid to that aspect, not least the issue of water supplies.
I am always available to help and advise constituents. Please do contact me if you need to at the House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA.
