Yesterday 8th January 2008 was a very important day for residents of Horsell. The Council Chamber was packed with residents and representatives of local Horsell groups who were vehemently opposed to the siting of a Vodafone Mast at the junction of the High Street and Horsell Way. The application was for a 12 metre mast and ancilliary equipment to be put right in the heart of the village, which would be seen from a wide area but would be disasterous for residents living in Horsell way itself and for those living in the High street The community spirit could not have been more clearly demonstrated in Horsell Way as replicas of the box that would be used were placedin the designated spot on a site visit in the afternoon with the Inspector seeing for himself what Vodafone was planning. Photos were available in the morning at the hearing to show how the mast would dwarf lamp-posts and other street furniture and the Horsell Residents Association gave a very clear set of points as to the proposed siting being a disaster for the area. Adrian Gray came and gave robust responses to Vodafone. He is a resident of Woking and has over some years acquired a great deal of knowledge on the subject which was helpful to all.
Your Councillor representing the Ward continues to work tirelessly for the residents and their very real concerns about Masts and I hope that when the inspector reports his findings in due course that the result will be found in favour of common sense and that in the future a more appropriate location will be found that will be happy for everyone!
We should know the results in about 7 weeks time!
