Promoting community spirit

Following the Tune In workshop, Woking Borough Council and Woking Association of Voluntary Services have agreed to coordinate how the community could address the specific concerns about the level of community spirit in the area and investigate the suggested solutions.

A meeting has been held with the Chairman of the Community Association and the Director of Woking Association of Voluntary Services and the following initiatives are to be investigated over the next twelve months:

  • Develop a "Welcome Card" for people new to the area, to make them aware of local facilities, the Community Association, the website, volunteering opportunities, etc.
  • Reinstating the car boot sales in the area.
  • Hold a "Party in the Park" style event next year to highlight the work of local groups, to encourage volunteering in the area and generally for local people mix and have fun.
  • Create a "How to run a local event" pack to help those who want organise or get involved in anything from a jumble sale to a street party.
  • Provide a monthly page in the local paper(s) to highlight events and community work generally in the Goldsworth Park area.

Anyone who is interested in being involved in these projects or has other suggestions to add, please contact Nick Roach, the Local Neighbourhood Officer at nick.roach@woking.gov.uk.
