'Tune In' to Goldsworth Park

What is "Tune In"?

"Tune In" is the name for a series of community based workshops across the Borough, aimed at providing residents with the opportunity to:

  • discuss issues in their local area
  • meet representatives from a range of public sector and voluntary bodies who work in the area
  • consider how collectively they can address issue that are raised
  • consider how they can become more involved in the day to day life of their neighbourhood.

Overview

The first 'Tune In' consultation evening with residents of Goldsworth Park took place at the Generation Centre on 21 March 2007.  Representatives from local statutory and voluntary organisations were joined by over 50 Goldsworth Park residents in discussions on ways to improve local life in the neighbourhood.

Attendance

50 registration forms were completed on the evening. It appears that this equates to 61 people (several couples completed one form), although there may have been a few more who attended but did not complete a form.

Three discussion groups looked at some of the above issues in more detail:

A number of actions came out of the meeting which the local Council, the police and the community in general need to address. As far as Nick Roach, the Neighbourhood Officers tasks go, there were a few areas to be look at.

  • There was a report of vegetables taken from large wheeled bins behind Waitrose being thrown around. To date, we have not been able to confirm which bins these came from, as the bins are generally locked; but the situation is being monitored.

  • There was a report of vandalism in Ainsdale Way. So far, we have been unable to ascertain further details about this and would urge people to report to Surrey Police if they have further information.

  • There was a report of litter on Claydon Road. We have visited the area and, on the day of our visit, the road looked very clean. However, the Neighbourhood Officer will continue to monitor the situation.

  • Sythwood Streetlights are an ongoing issue. They are maintained by Surrey County Council Highways Department, and we have informed them of some of the lights being out. Residents who are concerned may contact them direct, either by phone (0845 600 9009) or via their website.

  • Bishopswood was another area mentioned as having litter and this is being investigated.

  • Litter on the path between Waitrose and lake is an issue, and we are looking at whether an increase the frequency of litter-picks along this path is required.

  • The issue of litter and overgrown hedges around the Community Centre was also raised. The Probation Service is helping enormously by thinning out vegetation around the lake, and will also collect litter at times.

  • Serco are also increasing their level of litter-picking so conditions should improve.
