About ten years ago Woking Borough Council, in partnership with Woking Association of Voluntary Services, created the free community website, Window on Woking (WOW), to support local organisations publicise and share information online about their activities and events. Since then, innovations in the way we communicate has meant that organisations and visitor numbers to WOW have steadily fallen and is now only used by a minority of organisations registered. Therefore, after 10 successful years we have made the difficult decision to close the Window on Woking website on Friday 30 September 2016. From this date you will no longer be able to access your organisation’s webpage and the WOW site will cease.
We understand that this news may come as a surprise, but please be assured that the Council remains supportive of local voluntary organisations now and in the future. We’d like to thank you for your support of Window on Woking.
If you do have any queries or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact email@example.com.
1. Register your organisation on surreycommunity.info
In place of WOW, the Council is supporting the Surrey based community website www.surreycommunity.info, It provides a free directory that lists community, voluntary and not-for-profit organisations across Surrey, as well as many other exciting benefits. The site is supported by Surrey County Council and the 11 boroughs and districts of Surrey, including Woking.
2. Sign up to woking.interests.me
Alternatively, local community groups, clubs and societies are invited to sign up to www.woking.interests.me - a local website and simple tool specially designed for local voluntary groups. The tool helps with digital communications - from email newsletters to social media - and features a shared community events calendar.
3. Submit your community event or activity to the Celebrate Woking Events Calendar
The Celebrate Woking Programme now attracts well over 100,000 visitors a year and The Celebrate Woking website has become the “What’s On in Woking”, providing up to date information about events in the borough as well as visitor information. The website can now accept local community events and activities and feature them in the events calendar. Follow this link to submit your events or activities: www.celebratewoking.info/events/submit
